Alex Sletten

Founder & CEO

Alex Sletten founded Story Surge Films in 2023, following more than 20 years working across natural history and factual television.

After working with chimpanzees in the Republic of Congo, he entered the industry in 2006. Since then, he has produced, directed, and filmed close to 200 hours of programming for broadcasters and platforms around the world.

Before launching Story Surge Films, Alex ran Red Rock Films International, where his credits included the Netflix series Penguin Town and NatGeo/Disney+ Secrets of the Whales. His work has received Emmy, Wildscreen Panda, and other international awards.

He specializes in ambitious natural history films that combine cinematic wildlife storytelling with strong characters and broad international appeal.

Laura joined SSF in 2025 from BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, where she spent three years as Head of Development, working on landmark natural history series, feature docs and more for Netflix, National Geographic/Disney+, NBCU, and more.

Previously, she led development at Netflix-backed Wildspace Productions and Freeborne Media, launching titles such as Our Great National Parks with Barack Obama, Our Oceans, Island of Sea Wolves, Our Living World, and Living with Leopards.

With a background as a Producer/Director across factual content such as Secret Life of Dogs (ITV), Richard Hammond’s Amazon Jungle Quest (Sky), The Galapagos with Liz Bonnin (BBC), The Lost Diary of Dr. Livingstone (PBS), My Family & the Galapagos (C4), Laura brings a distinctive perspective to natural history filmmaking and is passionate about evolving storytelling to reach new audiences.
